Hello, my name is Sophia Adkins. Nice to meet you!

I am a private cello teacher. Since I picked up my instrument at 11 years old in orchestra class, I have devoted my life to it. I began performing professionally at fourteen with the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, a formative experience that launched my dedication to the cello. During high school, I spent three years at the Indiana University String Academy, refining technique and deepening musical insight, and I later attended the Eastman School of Music’s summer training intensive as an online auditor in 2020. I am currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Applied Music at Ball State University, where I have performed with the Ball State Symphony and in various collegiate chamber ensembles. In the summer of 2023, I furthered my chamber music training at the Benefic Chamber Music Camp, and these combined experiences have shaped a disciplined, collaborative approach to performance and a continued commitment to artistic growth.

My studio offers a meticulously curated learning experience, created by us, as a team. One that balances time-honored tradition with nuanced, contemporary insight. As a cellist who has worked with many teachers, I know how important it is to get the type of guidance that you need! Every cellist is different, with different goals and abilities. Let’s discover yours together! Each session is designed to refine technique while awakening a deeper artistic sensibility.

Guided by my experiences in collegiate and professional ensembles, I foster an environment where understated elegance and disciplined practice converge, offering a fun, customizable experience that helps you become the cellist of your dreams! A discerning ear will appreciate the cultivated path from first phrase to final encore.
